How It Works
Fixed wireless Internet utilizes transmission towers (often located on building roof tops) that communicate with the customer's location. All transmission towers and fixed wireless equipment at the customer's location are owned and maintained by NetStream Communications™.
NetStream installs transceiver equipment on the roof of the customer’s building which is linked point-to-point to a transmission station. A transceiver is a small dish (typically 2-4 feet in diameter) or rectangular shaped antenna that is attached to a radio transmitter. Unlike satellite Internet systems that communicate into outer space, fixed wireless dishes communicate only with transmission stations on the ground. And unlike mobile Internet services such as cellular or WiMax, fixed wireless service is tied to one physical access point per customer and does not roam to other customers.
There is a misconception that fixed wireless connections suffer from network latency problems causing poor performance. While high latency is an issue for satellite Internet, fixed wireless systems do not have this limitation. Customers routinely use fixed wireless for online gaming, VoIP, and other applications that require low network latency.
